Twin Cities DSA Statement on Mosque Arson Attacks

Twin Cities DSA stands firmly and unequivocally with our Muslim community in the face of the recent arsons at the Mercy Islamic Center and at the 24 Somali Mall. An injury to one is an injury to all, and we are committed to fighting for a Twin Cities and a world where everyone can express their religion without threat of violence. Furthermore, we recognize it is impossible to take on capitalism without simultaneously fighting against islamophobia, xenophobia, and racism. As these recent arsons show, it is often working class immigrant communities that bear the brunt of this bigotry.

TCDSA proudly supports our neighbors and the work being done to fight hatred and stand up for religious freedom: from Senator Mohamed’s push for better hate crime reporting, to Council Member Chughtai’s recent work to alter noise ordinances to accommodate the Muslim call to prayer, and the courageous fighting of local Amazon workers for religious accommodation.
