The Twin Cities DSA for Bernie 2020 working group is ramping up! We kicked off with a debate watch party with 80+ people in attendance, then proceeded to prepare campaign infrastructure — getting more familiar with our new tech tools, canvassing scripts and creating literature. Some of our delegation to the 2019 DSA National Convention participated in a Bernie 2020 breakout, hearing from DSA chapters around the country that are matching our stride with “DSA for Bernie” work.
This past Saturday, the working group held its first pilot canvass along the St. Paul light rail where we tried out our scripts and our paperless Airtable forms. After canvassing, we discussed ways to rework areas needing improvement. Despite the rain, we were able to get our feet wet — literally and figuratively — for Bernie’s run!
As it stands, we’re a fairly small working group and would love to have more Twin Cities DSA members helping out, so we can scale up to an operation large enough to cover our cities — we especially need more women and femme comrades to join us! While we’ll be driving turnout for Bernie and registering voters, we’ll also be seizing on a rare opportunity to talk to a massive number of folks interested in democratic socialism, who would join us in this movement if only they knew more about it, and how they can plug in.
Please consider attending any of the events coming up, such as:
• Bernie’s Grassroots Fundraiser in the Twin Cities on Aug. 24
• Tabling at Open Streets (U of M & Motley) on Sept. 8, and
• Our next big Debate Watch Party on Sept. 12 or 13.
