Before our usual updates, a reminder to members that to join us for the May General Meeting! This meeting will include a Zen City presentation from the Palestine Solidarity Working Group, a Bylaws Amendment Debate, National Convention Delegate Candidate speeches, and a breakout led by our Platform Committee. The meeting will be held at the Minneapolis Central Library, Pohlad Hall S-280 Doors open at 5:00p and the meeting will be called to order at 5:30p. Members may also attend over Zoom.

• To help us evaluate some potential changes to our newsletter production, please complete our survey so we can hear what you most value in a newsletter from our chapter. This newsletter has been maintained in various forms since 2017, and we want to ensure our communications are relevant, useful, and sustainable as we look forward to a busy 2025 and beyond.

Pride Month Tabling – Volunteers Needed!

• Sign up to help rep your chapter at this year’s Twin Cities Pride Festival and People’s Pride! Pride was an excellent event for us last year as we celebrate the fight for queer liberation and the struggle for a better world.

TCDSA Informal Spanish Conversation Practice Group

• Did you know that TCDSA has an informal Spanish conversation practice group? We meet every other week and welcome speakers of all levels (though know that the focus is on conversation and that the sessions include no formal tutoring/teaching).

Ezra Ishman Solidarity Fund – Volunteers Needed!

• The Ezra Ishman Solidarity fund is looking for members to help administer applications. This fund was established in 2018 and distributes one-time grants up to $300 to TCDSA members. It is meant to help meet immediate material needs and is a means of mutual support among people organizing together. If you are interested in helping to review these applications, please contact Tim H at tcdsasolidarityfund@gmail.com.

Sign up for a Monthly Recurring Donation!

• Did you know that only 20% of the monthly dues you pay to DSA go to our local chapter? The rest of that money stays in National DSA’s coffers. Much of the rest of TCDSA operations are made possible by members who also make direct recurring donations to fund our office space, our events, and all our organizing work. These donations ensure that TCDSA continues to be an independent, member-run organization and ensure we can continue to build power in the Twin Cities. Can you donate $10 a month?

• The Organizing Committee (OC) functions as a space to develop leaders within the labor branch through consistent engagement in political education, developing and supporting labor branch campaigns and projects, and planning the monthly branch meetings.

• This standing meeting is intended to provide structured, designated time for EJ WG members to work on upcoming political education events, and to maintain momentum and provide overarching structure/ strategy to the series of events instead of handling them on a disjointed one-by-one basis.

• Hybrid meeting of the group working with the Zero Burn Coalition to get Hennepin County to shut down the HERC trash burner polluting North Minneapolis and push zero-waste policies in the city and county. Meets Monthly on the third Tuesday of the month.

Public Sector Divestment/Labor for Palestine Meeting – Tuesday, 5/20, 7:00p – 8:00p –Zoom Registration

• Share how your union is working on divestment and discuss how to escalate and collaborate with other public sector unions in our fight for Palestine.

• Join the Internal Organizing Committee for a New Member Listwork meeting. We review new members who have signed up for 1:1s and assure there are members planning to reach out to them. Once that’s covered, we contact new members to sign-up for 1:1s.

• If you are currently a tenant, have rented in the past, or simply care about housing justice, join us to discuss and strategize on tenant organizing in the Twin Cities!! We will be doing this work with support from a mentor with ETOC (DSA’s Emergency Tenant Organizing Committee).

• The Outreach Subcommittee is tasked with community outreach within spaces that are not traditional activist or political spaces and learning how to have constructive conversations about socialism with working class people outside of the traditional leftist/activist milieu.

• Meeting of the working group acting in coalition toward the goal of replacing the current I-94 interstate corridor with an at-grade boulevard and/or rail transit option that reconnects communities in the Twin Cities.

Solidarity Saturdays: Delta Workers Phone-bank – Saturday, 5/24, 10:00a – 12:00p – International Association of Machinists (IAM) Office

• DSA across the country is supporting the historic unionization drive of 18,000 Delta ramp, cargo, and tower workers. In 2023, Delta made 40% of the airline industry’s profits – more than United, American, Southwest, and Alaska combined. Despite these record profits, Delta workers are nowhere near the highest compensated in the industry in terms of pay or benefits. This is an important opportunity to support the revival of the labor movement and to support a racially diverse workforce in winning a union and more rights, which will help us fight Trump and the billionaire class.
  
  Delta workers are organizing with the International Association of Machinists (IAM), who have asked DSA for solidarity! Across the country, Delta workers, union members, DSA, and IAM staff are phone-banking Delta workers on Saturdays asking them to resign expired union authorization cards. No experience needed; phone script provided.

• General Meeting of the Street Corps Working Group of TC-DSA. Street Corps is the Chapters Mutual Aid & Community Defense wing of the chapter.
  
  This meeting will focus on finalizing our groups bylaws which lay out the structure, duties, and mission of our group. All interested members welcome to attend!

Budget, Finance, and Fundraising Committee Meeting – Sunday, 5/25 – 7:00p – 8:00p – Zoom Registration

• This is the biweekly meeting for all things Budget, Finance, and Fundraising related! This meeting is to discuss the state of our budget, what our plans are for fundraising, compliance reporting, and similar subjects.
