Twin Cities DSA Little Red Letter #90: Convention Recap, Nurses and More!

Thank you to everyone who joined our annual convention on Sunday, Building Community, Class Struggle, and Capacity: Fighting for our Future in the Autumn of Capitalism. Well over 100 members joined us in-person or online to debate chapter business, meet our candidates for Steering Committee, and hear from an Amazon worker about their organizing efforts. Make sure to vote if you haven’t already (search OpaVote in your email) — voting will close on Friday at 9:30pm and we’ll announce the results over the weekend via slack and blog post. Thank you again to everyone who volunteered and made the event (and particularly the hybrid format) possible. These meetings are no small feat!   While our chapter has focused on administrative business this weekend, class struggle continues on its own pace. One of the largest private sector strikes in our nation’s history took place Monday through Wednesday when the Minnesota Nurses Association picketed 15 hospitals across the Twin Cities and Twin Ports. As of Thursday, an imminent rail strike seems to have been temporarily averted, but the power remains in the hands of the workers to accept or reject the proposed contract.   We’re entering the homestretch of the 2022 election season, and considering two more candidates. Aaron Wagner (Robbinsdale City Council, Ward 4) and Samantha Sencer-Mura (MN House 63A) are both seeking our endorsement. Over the next week, we have a Q&A with each candidate, to be followed by an endorsement meeting over Zoom. We hope to see you there!
