Two weeks ago, around 25 comrades made the trip home to the Twin Cities from Chicago, many dollars poorer (from having bought too many books), but so much richer in knowledge. We were coming home from Socialism 2019, an annual conference focused on learning and collaboration among socialists, hosted this year by DSA, Haymarket Books, and Jacobin. TCDSA members attended conference sessions on a huge variety of topics, from police abolition to social reproduction theory, teachers’ strikes to disability politics. Some highlights included our very own Mandy M’s panel, “We Won’t Go Back: The Fight to Defend Abortion Rights,” a Union Organizing 101 panel, a conversation on reparations, a panel of youth climate activists hosted by Teen Vogue (the kids are alright), some real good quotes from Astra Taylor, and a talk on revolutionary socialism by The Red Nation. I sat 20 feet away from Naomi Klein as she spoke about climate change and the hope that socialism brings her in these dark times. It was awesome.
Thank you so much to all who came out for the People’s Prom, the money from which helped us send several people to Socialism Conference who would not have been able to attend without your help. We had a blast, and we are so excited to talk more to y’all about what we learned in Chicago!
