Resolution in Support of the International Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement

Twin Cities DSA members brought this resolution to the Minneapolis DFL City Convention on July 19th, 2025. We needed signatures from 84 delegates to make the agenda – we collected 350!

Delegates voted overwhelmingly in favor, making divestment a part of the Minneapolis DFL platform. All candidates carrying DFL endorsement should now be expected to support divesting from genocide.


Whereas, the international community recognizes that Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute a genocide, and the International Court of Justice has concluded that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory is unlawful.

Whereas, by March of 2025 the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 50,000, with over 70% of those killed identified as women and children.

Whereas, since 2005, the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement has called for “international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era.”

Whereas, the ongoing platform of the DFL supports the Palestinian right to self-determination and continued peace efforts in the Middle East; therefore, be it

Resolved, that the Minneapolis DFL opposes any investment by the City of Minneapolis or the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board in, or procurement of City or Park Board contracts by, entities complicit in the occupation and genocide in Gaza; and be it further 

Resolved, that the Minneapolis DFL expects candidates seeking DFL endorsement to oppose investment by the City of Minneapolis or the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board in, or procurement of City or Park Board contracts by, entities complicit in the occupation and genocide in Gaza.
